I wanted to post a blog to share with everyone about how Chris and I became husband and wife!
So, a lot of people may not know this, but Chris and I go way back.... like to middle school, even though we never dated until after I was in college. Christopher and I went to North Middle and Lenoir City High School together, and even though we never were in the same group of friends, we had several classes together and knew "of" each other.
The Fall semester of my Freshman year at Tennessee Wesleyan College, I was on myspace.com and noticed from one of my friends profile pages that Chris had a myspace account as well. Figuring that we went to school together all of our lives, I decided to send him a friend request online. He accepted my cyber friendship and short there-after sent me a message inquiring what I had been up to since high school. I told him about my college in Athens, and he went on to tell me about the family that he has that lives in Athens. We kept chatting, then exchanged phone numbers, and later met up at Border's Bookstore in Turkey Creek to hang out, just as friends! Well, we kept talking and realized that we had a lot in common. We decided that we could meet each other's families and take it from there.
So, it was Halloween of 2007 and Tennessee Wesleyan always throws a community Halloween celebration. I told my mom and sister (dad was at the races) to come down for the evening to meet Chris, and then Chris and I would go over to his grandparents afterwards. To my surprise, everyone got a long perfectly, and the evening went without a hitch! After the halloween dinner was over, Chris took me back to campus to drop me back off at my dorm. As he was leaving he asked me to be his girlfriend, and we've been together every since!
About a year later, Chris and I had gotten serious, and being all the way in Athens (while he worked in Knoxville) had became the only thing we fought about. I felt like only seeing him once during the week, and on the weekends was not enough... and he didn't enjoy driving that far on a regular basis. Not to mention, I missed my family so incredibly badly that my campus life was pretty much miserable. I decided to pack it up at the end of the school year and move back home.
The following fall ended up being the season that would change my life! One September morning, I got a very curious call very early in the morning, Chris was just calling to "talk," which is something that he NEVER does. I have never met a man that despised talking on the phone so much! He asked about 40 useless questions, and then asked if my parents were awake yet, I said "mom is" and he ended the call shortly after, and then guess what.... my mom's cell phone rang. She whispered very quietly, and chuckled and then quickly ended the phone call. Later on, Chris called me back and talked me into going to the mall to "shop for shoes." We literally walked into West Town Mall, and he said "Well, go pick one out." Can you guess what he was talking about? Well, it was... a RING! So, I learned what my budget was, and price-shopped through out the entire mall, and finally found the ring of my dreams! We, I mean he, paid for it, and then he held my precious ring hostage... until we got to the nasty, stinky, smelly elevator that takes you up to the parking garages at regal cinemas. He fumbled with the bag and box and finally (after going up and down the elevator three times) managed to get down on one knee and proposed! It was unconventional, yes, but one that I will never forget!
