We did it!! We had a baby!!

Never did I ever realize how much I could love someone I just met until Friday, January 11th at 6:04 p.m.

I am writing this blog because I want to share my amazing experience of having my sweet baby boy (you know, with out all the gory details!) haha!!

I was scheduled to be induced on Friday the 11th because I just couldn't wait another day to meet my baby. So my doctor had me come in on Thursday the 10th just to have one last check-up befor my induction. I went in, was dilated 2 cm, she scraped my membranes (ouch!) and told me to come in the next morning at my scheduled time! So, needless to say, I did not sleep AT ALL Thursday night... maybe collectively 3 hours. We spent the night with mom and dad because they were going to the hospital with us at 5. Around 3:00, everyone gets up and we head to.... McDonalds! I was NOT going to be stuck in the hospital all day with nothing to eat because I know they were planning to starve me once I got there. So after collecting my hotcakes and smoothie, we headed to UT medical center. Once we parked and started walking to the hospital, with enough luggage to spend a week there, I realize that the next time I get in my car, I'd be accompanied by a sweet little baby boy!

After getting checked in and unwillingly given an uncomfortable-feeling IV- my family was able to come back and join me for the waiting that would last all day! Around 8 a.m., my doctor (Natalie) came in to check on me and I was still just dilated to a 2.5 c.m.-- bummer that the terrible membrane scraping didn't speed up that process a little! She decided to give me something called a Foley  Bulb-- I will not go into details about this one, feel free to ask me if curiousity gets the best of you-- but I'll tell you it hurts!! It had me asking "When can I get my epidural?" With the comforting support of my nurses and some IV pain meds, I was able to get through the entire Foley Bulb experience with out my epidural-- at which point I had dilated to 4 cm.

After I finished with the Foley Bulb, I was able to deal with my contractions-- and I made it to 5.5 cm before I requested the meds! The anethesiologist was so sweet to me. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am absolutely terrified of needles of all shapes and sizes! As soon as that sweet lady wheeled that epidural cart into the room, I started bawling uncontrollably! I could not hold back the water works at all! My sweet husband was so supportive of me, and just held my hand and comforted me. I continued to apologize for my weeping, even I didn't know truly what I was crying for-- I just couldn't stop it! It didn't hurt, I wasn't having painful contractions... I was just having a crazy pregnant lady moment! Whenever she was finished, I asked to see that gigantically-long needle. I know I said I was scared of needles-- but I needed to see that needle so that I could see how "strong and brave" I was- haha!

It didn't take long for the good drugs to kick in-- about 20 minutes to be exact! Some women have issues with their epidural not being effective, but I had the opposite issue. My right leg was completely dead, I mean I could not feel or move anything! My left leg was moveable, but I could not feel hardly anything. It was amazing! I think at one point during labor, Chris actually dropped my dead leg off the hospital bed because he forgot that I couldn't move it... It was like mid-night before I regained feeling of my leg!

Anyways... at about 4:30, my nurse came in to check me and whoa! I was dilated to 9 cm! I received this speel about how even though I may hit 10 cm soon, I still have to be in a +2 station to be able to start pushing, and sometimes that can take a few hours! Bummer, right? Well, I guess that my body didn't care what the nurses say, because when Natalie came in 20 minutes later after being in her office that afternoon, she checked me again, and I was 10 cm and completely ready to push! YAY! So she allowed all my "peanut gallery" in the waiting area to come and wish me good luck! So, at about 5:20, I started pushing. After only about 10 contractions and 40 minutes, Parker Webb Nunley was born into this world! He was perfect and absolutely amazing! If I could have designed my perfect baby, he would be Parker! His beautiful skin tone, tons of hair, no birth mark on his face! I mean he's just what I wanted!! He had excellent apgar scores (8 at 1 minute after birth, and 9 at 5 minutes after birth)! He weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and was 21.5 cm long. 10 fingers, 10 toes!

The delivery went perfectly, I was terrified for nothing! I am so thankful for my sweet husband whom was so caring and supportive to me throughout my pregnancy, and delivery. I was so glad I was able to share the experience with my mom and sister, who were present for Parker's birth! I am also very thankful for my doctor, Natalie Blache, whom took extra special care of me throughout everything! She was there for me when I was scared that I couldn't get pregnant and followed me through the very end. I know that I wasn't the easiest patient, I'm a little paranoid and inquisitive, but she was always (usually, haha) patient with me, and I trusted her 110%! You know how most people say that their doctor didn't show his/her face until it was time to "catch" the baby? Well, I had the advantage of my doctor being there throughout most of my labor and ALL of my delivery! I really, really appreciate all that she has done for me!

The rest of my time spent at UT was very enjoyable! My nurses were very, very sweet-- they treated me wonderfully. The lactation consultants were amazing as well, they spent ample amounts of time on me and Parker and got our breastfeeding off to a terrific start! I "feel" like we'll be able to successfully nurse for a while!

Sunday afternoon, we were discharged to go home and on the way, we stopped at my Great Grandmother's house, so that she can meet Parker, her Great-Great-Grandson! How special is that? She was so smitten with him!

I hope that I didn't share too much, but I just wanted to share my wonderful, exciting experience with all my friends and family members. I also want to thank everyone who took their time to come spend time with us at the hospital and those who have came by our house after arriving home! We've been overwhelmed with love and encouragement from everyone!
